5 months:
Favorite toy: Owl book
- Hold head more steady, unless your tired then you get really wobbly.
- Started blowing full raspberries with tongue, spit and all.
- Responds to our facial expressions, emotions and tone of voice.
- You like to chew on my fingers.
- Remember toys.
- Likes noise, but not fond of clapping. You blink every time, not sure if it startles you or if its just a reaction. I have always done it when someone uses a hammer. You love crinkly sounds, like a bag of chips.
- Looks in mirror and will smile if you seem me, but not interested in your own reflection very often.
- You pay no attention to dogs or cats, you just don’t seem to be interested in them.
- You like to suck on your wash cloth in the bath tub, you like the water I guess.
- You get so excited when you see my Dr. Pepper bottle. Like your about to get a drink. You always want whatever we are eating.
- When I took you outside and showed you flowers, you now pick them and try to eat them.
- You seem to like reaching for stuff rather than actually grabbing it.
- You lost half your hair in the back. Your new hair is so cute cause it is kind of fuzzy looking. I can tell where the baby hair still is, the darker hair in the back, in the center.
- Your hair on the top of your head is getting so long. We could even put clips in it.
Aug 30- First time Uncle Steve held you.
Sept 14- I swear, you said “Mama.” We were at Aunt Keitha’s house, she was holding you up in
the sitting position. You kept fussing and you reached out to me and said “Mama”
then fussed some more. I looked at Keitha and asked if you really just said that!
She said, “It sure sounded like it!”
19- First family road trip. It was for Grandma Leitha’s birthday, we went to Fantastic Caverns in Missouri
along with Uncle Steve and Aunt Dixie. Dixie was so impressed with how well you did.
I was really proud. You did awesome in the cave and seemed to enjoy it.
Sometimes, you amaze me with how perfect of a baby you are. You are always so happy and
well behaved the majority of the time. In the car on the way to Missouri, you just played with your toys
and played with Aunt Dixie & me. We sang songs and watched nursery rhyme music videos.
You seemed to really enjoy singing “Patty Cake” the most.
Feeding:
Right when you turned 5 months, we began putting rice cereal in your bottles at night. I only put it in 2 of your bottles though. Later that month, we tried to feed you the rice cereal with a spoon, but you did not seem to fond of it. You still are only eating 2-4 oz at a time. Mostly eat 3oz every 2-3 hrs, but during the day you seem to only eat 2 oz every 2-3 hrs. You eat more at night, but still wake up every 2-4 hours to eat, depending on how much you ate the last feeding.
You have been more difficult to feed here lately. At first, when I try to give you your bottle you will spit at it and blow it everywhere. Any sound or distraction, you will stop eating and look around to see where it came from or at whoever made the noise to see what they are doing. I normally cant even talk. I have to do my “shh shh” sound to a rhythm or sing to you to get you to relax and eat. I just started singing some to you. Mostly I just repeat your name and tell you that I love you.
Play time:
You like to watch videos on my Kindle and play games, such as playing the drums or my firework app. The fireworks app is something easy for you to do, cause you touch the screen and it creates multi-colored fireworks.
You don’t seem to show much interest in music, but you do like your music on your swing. A few times we heard you making noises like you were singing with it. You like some music videos though. Loves Grandma Leitha’s singing, it will put you right to sleep. We joke that you must be tone deaf.
You love your new bumbo. You love to sit up and be able to see everyone. It supports you really well. We will set you at the table with us at dinner and I will set you on the table while I am doing stuff in the kitchen. It allows you to be more involved and engaged with others. It is also nice to give you a bath in, especially when we are traveling. However, I learned that it floats, even with you in it. We put some ducky’s and stuff in the tub and you seemed to enjoy playing with those. I had to get you out to clean your bottom half. I learned you are not comfortable with me laying you down in the water. You started kicking and wiggling. Got me all wet.
You love when I wave a sheet or other material waved over you. You will crack up laughing. Your not quite at the “peek-a-boo” stage yet. You like the tags on the toys more than the toys themselves. You remember toys. The music player, you know to press the button but sometimes hit the light instead. You have not quite figured out which part your suppose to press, so you will sometimes just hit it over and over till it plays.
Behavior & Personality:
You are starting to mimic me some. I have been trying to get you to stick out your tongue, without blowing the raspberries. You were some, but you would only stick it out a little ways. It was like you were thinking about it, but wasn’t sure.
It is so cute when you try to give Grandma Leitha Eskimo kisses. She would always give them to you and one evening she was holding you and you turned your face into hers, wrapped your arm around her and started rubbing your face against her cheek. You have done it a few times now since then. I am not sure, but I think you place your hand on our face as a sign of affection. You just do it to Grandma Leitha & me normally. You may touch someone else's face like Uncle Steve, but you will almost hold our cheeks. After a day with Aunt Dixie on the road trip, you held her cheek.
You like it when I make repetitive sounds, like “jajaja” or “kikiki,” as in Jadie & kick. You will start cracking up laughing. You get so excited when you think one of us is about to pick you up. You start smiling and giggling when we show you attention most of the time. You think its funny when I copy you when you make noises. Sometimes we will play “Who is the loudest?” When you are on the floor playing, you wiggle around and will be all the way on the other side of the room before we know it.
You have started to fuss when I leave the room, or out of your line of sight, but usually fine as long as you can see me or Grandma. Once, you were in your swing, Grandma and I had stepped out of the room. Uncle Steve came in and talked to you for a sec then walked back out the door. You started crying out because he left.
You make a whiny fuss sound when hungry or just want picked up. Your sleepy cry tends to be more of a long sad cry. Seems like a lot of the time when you spit is when you dont like something.
I believe at 5.5 months, you began to have some stranger anxiety. When we go places and meet new people, you always look at me like “Are they safe? Is it okay?” You will put your hand on my face the entire time while we talk to whoever. You will sometimes crack a smile at the person we are talking to, but that is the extent of it.
Sleep:
- When you get tired, you get really giggly.
- Still sleeping in bed with me
- Usually only want paci when you are sleepy.
- You still like to sleep on my chest most of the time.
- Fall asleep to Grandma Leitha telling you stories and rocking you, but I usually need to be sitting across from you.
- When you get sleepy and eating your bottle, you start playing your hair on the top of your head. You just grab it over and over, running your fingers through it.
- When tired and playing with your toys, you will start slamming them up and down.
- Still have nightmares, had since you were born, but sometimes they wake you or make you cry out in your sleep. You toss and turn in your sleep a lot.
