4 months

4 months:

Your now 2’ tall & weigh 12 lbs.
Favorite toy: Giraffe book. At bedtime you like the musical giraffe.
You have much better head control except when you are tired. Then it gets hard for you to hold your head up. Better about your head being touched. You don’t fuss as much anymore when I wash or brush it. You lost some of your baby hair, all the top part of your head. It was like it happened over night. Woke up with a head of new hair. The back is still fairly thick and much darker than the top now. The top seems to be almost blonde, maybe light brown. You can tell that you have not lost that part yet. You are getting more color in your eyebrows too.

July 22- Started blowing spit bubbles (raspberries but without the tongue)
23- First time you slept on your stomach. You had one arm underneath you so you could roll over easily.
Aug  3- First time PaPa David held you.
Also, the day you met your Dad and he held you.

  • Back, sides & feet are ticklish.
  • Loves to go on walks, likes looking at the trees.
  • Your Dad said you have a “Tibbets head.” Basically saying you take after his moms side of the family with the big head. Your Dads moms mom, Viola Tibbets.

As of August:
You are able to sit in your rocker better. We use the sit me up, but you have to have a pillow under you and blanket behind you. Its still a little bit too big for you.

Aunt Dixie bought you a new car seat. You seem to like it pretty well. You still aren't fond of car rides. You do better if I put you in the carseat in the house then carry you to the car. You don’t get as upset. On our 3+ hour car rides, you normally have one big fit. You get tired of being in the car & want to be held. So you fight eating so you don’t fall asleep.

You usually smile at everyone who talks to you, but it takes you a bit to warm up to them enough to really smile & start talking. You are the most talkative once everyone else is gone and its just me & Grandma Leitha. It is so cute when you get excited! Your hold your arms and legs straight out and they will be shaking. You make these sounds that sound like quick gasps in. You are beginning to recognize your name, or atleast your nickname “Jadie.” That is what I always call you. You always have to see whats going on and be able to see who is talking.

When you want or need something, you start off with a small whiny voice. After you do that for a bit then you will start crying. When you get hungry, you will make that whiny cry. I will get a bottle and show it to you, you will just smile. I was burping you on my shoulder, but I changed it to you sitting on my leg now. Sometimes just a few pats on the back works, sometimes a little bouncing or just being able to sit up straight.

Play Time:
You think its funny when you put your hand in my mouth. You want me to "eat" your hand. Then I usually move to "eating" your feet and the inside of your thighs. You always crack up laughing once I get your thighs. I guess it tickles.

You enjoy when I throw the sheet or fabric into the air & on top of you. I do that over and over. You get excited when its falling down towards you and you will get ready to close your eyes. Sometimes, you tend to close them a little early.

You reach and grab stuff all the time, although you have some trouble getting some stuff because its too big for your hands. Still working on your grip, you will just let go sometimes. You still have a hard time getting toys to your mouth. You tend to hold the toy, but put your hand to mouth instead.

It scared me the first time you yelled while playing. I did not know if something was wrong. Once I saw you smiling & laughing I knew you were just being noisy. You sometimes get to carrying on, you get loud & just yell at your toys. Sometimes, you get so mad at your toys when you can not get them to do what you want, which is usually getting them in your mouth. You will start slamming them around and yelling at them.

I have to really watch you when you are on the floor playing. You get to rolling around & grab the blanket you lay on. You pull it over your head and sometimes cant get out. You will be all over the place. I’ll lay you in one spot and look up to you being across the room.

You can roll from back to tummy & back again. Sometimes you get to going and either face plant or scare yourself. You rolled off your play mat once & scared yourself pretty bad. Sometimes you start yelling because you get stuck on your stomach.

You have no desire to try to raise up on your elbows when you are on your tummy. You stick your legs & arms up instead. You still have no desire to try to put weight on your feet either, to stand up. You either bend your knees or go limp.

Sleep:
  • You kept waking up in your crib and would not go back to sleep. Every time I got you out to rock you, you would wake up when I laid you back down. You did not wake up when I laid you on my bed though. So, you ended up sleeping in bed with me, because I got tired of sleeping with you in the recliner.
  • At first, I was able to put you to sleep by laying you on a pillow and rocking the crap out of you. Not always, but normally you liked to be almost shaken to sleep. I would rock the pillow side to side.
  • Its hard for me to hum, because it hurts my throat. Since your not big on singing, I started going “shh shh shh” to a rhythm. Sometimes, I get to going and make almost a whistle sound. Or when I do try to hum/sing I start making “La la da la” sounds instead. You seem to like it when I do either one.
  • Every time I sat in the rocker to rock you to sleep you would start crying & yelling at me. Ended up putting you to sleep from there on out by you laying on top of me. I would lay you on your side, make my “shh shh” sound & sometimes pat your back while I lay on the bed & bounce my legs. I believe that became your new favorite spot. Then once you were asleep & I was ready to lay down I would roll to my side and lay you down on the bed. Sometimes I would get up, usually I would just keep my arm around you and sleep curled up to you.
  • When you wake up, I would put you back to sleep by rolling you to your side and tucking you into my side with my arm around you. You almost always would go back to sleep.
